Conventions 2014

Starting with a hi hello how are you? I’m fine thank you. I’ve been really busy with game development, art contributions and management for 2 online games. Both of them are now up and functioning well so all that’s left is managing them. (See Games)

Alright convention blog… Just to sum it up, I only attended local conventions this year due to a super busy schedule so here’s a short blog of the ones I attended this year.

Ai-kon (July 11-13, 2014) – my 4th year here. Quite disappointed that my spot was on the far corner facing back and there weren’t that many people this year too. Only saw a few cosplayers and not so many good ones but good to see the same faces buying some of my other stuff. Thank you Winnipeg~ ^o^ Also shouts to friends from out of town who came to my table showing me the pins they got from me 2-3yrs ago.. some of which I don’t sell anymore so I’m really happy that they still have it. ^__^

Comic & Toy Expo (April 13, 2014) – Just a 1 day convention but it’s worth it. It’s a comic con with only 2 anime artist hahaha. Exposure matters in this kind of small con. An opportunity came actually but it was a miss on my part for not getting the contact info of that company who wanted to hire me for an animation film! Couldn’t follow up since their company name was something I’m not familiar of and that person was in a rush, just took my card so nothing I can do there but wait… but nothing happened. I’ll definitely grab the next opportunity next time even if it means taking their time. LOL.

Wonderland Anime Festival (March 1-2, 2014) – 2 days convention hosted by C4. Their first year hosting anime convention with guests from Sailor Moon voice actors! Originally, I just paid for an autograph from Linda Ballantyne but she suddenly asked me to take a pic with my signed bookmark she’s holding here. Ah, she was really sweet when she came to my table pointing at that bookmark. Glad I got a chance to give it to her before the con was over coz I totally blanked out when she came to my table and missed my chance to offer her a bookmark or even a poster. >v<

Toy & Comic Expo (September 7, 2014) Just a single day con and it went by too fast! Some idle moments but this day was more on talking to local commissioners and kids….. I dunno why but there’s about 4 different group of kids went by my table to chitchat.. lol… just adorable kids talking about Sailor Moon and their toys hahahahaha……. this made me think.. do they know me? They talk like we’ve been talking a lot in the phone or at school…. or maybe they saw me in previous convention and I’m just getting old I forgot about them.. >__< Anyways.. quite a successful con… And the artist area is so spacious my table was 8ft long and behind me was completely bare.. lots of free space to roam around and for my stuff but I’m organize under the table as always.

PS: Thanks to my mom and dad for helping me setup my table.. ^o^

Convention preparations… are always stressful! LOL.. but they’re worth it. (*´◡`)

^ these pins are the new products on my table and they sell with a smile. ( ⌒∇⌒ )

That’s all for now but I’ll keep updating. (more updates in my facebook page)

Winnipeg Comic and Toy Expo 2012

where: Canad Inns Polo Park, Winnipeg

when: March 3-4, 2012

my first con this year.. it was small and cheap but sales went well.. i was the only anime artist in the place….. >v<! that really made me feel out of place coz everyone’s selling comic stuff and not much related to anime.. duh…. it’s a comic and toy expo… OTL but it was worth going since the point is to make some profit.. now i can buy my roundtrip to toronto for anime north.. heheh…. @v@

ctexpo12-01

I was planning to make my set up like in c4 with the cages on the side for my posters but i was busy fixing up my applications to game companies so i was not able to prepare for this con.. i cant find the cages i used before so i just used the stands…. it was an easy set up.. and luckily the table was good enough without a table cloth coz i didnt expect that a hotel venue wont provide clothes for tables.. XD anyways.. the only downside with this set up is that i wasnt able to display all my posters… i had way too many images for posters.. >v< but some of them are out of stock anyways and at least the table was big enough to have space for the stands.. i got a huge stand behind me displaying bigger posters.. it was useful and im happy to sell some old huge posters coz of that.. *^^*

i wasnt able to take lots of pics coz there’s not that many people.. but here are some pics in my facebook album

Something unexpected happen in this con.. I guess im used to people taking my pics but a guy came to me asking for a couple shots.. he then emailed me with the pics saying my pic was in the monday’s Winnipeg Free Press.. (where? in the news paper!) >v<

ctexpo12-02

the business cards and the spider man sticker are the loots i got from this con.. XD there’s only a few artist and i got the cards of some of them too..

Thanks again to Trevor Hagan for sending the pics..~<3 Here’s a clear shot of the featured image..

ctexpo12-03

and an extra shot of what i was working there..

ctexpo12-04

special thanks to Paolo and Janine for manning the table with me.. and to James for buying the newspaper.. lol.. =P

eeh… what else to report….. there’s a lot of antique toys and super sale manga from $4 each or 3 for $10.. nothing much caught my interest other than the sailor v manga.. but i didnt want to buy an on-going series so i’ll wait til the box set is available.. =P

overall, it was pretty much a successful con for me.. i didnt spend anything on my merch.. everything was just the left overs so the profit was great so now i can re-order stocks and print new images and a plane ticket for the next con.. @v@

next con: anime north..! im excited i got the full table but will probably share to a friend who’s in the waiting list.. unless they get lucky, i can occupy the whole table.. :>

collab with 15385bic

sketch by bic..~<3 i colored in photoshop.. @x@;

first time coloring with a tablet after almost 3 years…. >v<! the first victim is bic’s sketch for King-sama.. i really wanted to get used to the tablet asap but before that, i find it fun to color with it than a mouse.. it took less than 3hrs to color.. no pressure, just for fun.. and also experimented a few things with coloring with a tablet.. ^^; aaaah…. magic mouse was indeed great but a tablet is better after all… XD

this picture was dedicated to King-sama.. <3 it’s supposed to be him and his lion persona.. :>

other collabs with bic.. wooh..~ it was really fun coloring her works.. *^^*

i really should be sleeping by now.. XD

C4 2011 Review

where: Winnipeg Convention Centre

when: Oct. 28-30, 2011

Central Canada Comic Con aka C4.. this con blog is super late but here’s my experience during my first “comic” convention.. *^^*

Another Winnipeg convention, this time it’s more on comics and not much anime but I know I can expect something better here than the other cons from my previous experience at Ai-Kon.. it all went well.. even better than expected.. There wasn’t that much people but my sales were better than fanexpo… >v<!!

I didn’t have much time to prepare coz of my seasonal job at that time but I manage to finish my preparations the night before.. somehow.. XD

also, the night before, I had to run to staples…OTL…just to print some posters of my new work, the GAIA illustration for the artbook. I wasn’t going to sell posters of that pic but since I’m trying to advertise the charity artbook, might as well sell some posters of my contribution. *^^*

day 1 was ok… I was really exhausted coz I had to set up by 7:30am by appointment. It was difficult to set up my display.. I didn’t plan my 8×3 table til I get there. It took me 4 hours to finish my set up…. 4hrs….. @______@;

It’s definitely a slow friday but I sold out my GAIA posters. I only printed 5 coz I didn’t think it would sell right away so I had to ask my friend to reprint more for the next day. It’s still up there but I sold out Morrigan, Weiwei, Breakaway and Hitsugaya. Unless I get orders, I wont reprint for cons.. They’re kinda expensive to order and not that easy to sell. ^^;

More importantly, I sold my most expensive print ever.. the one and only for Mr. Wayne.. thank you..~~!!

and then TigerFey (from deviantart) came to pick up the commissions he ordered.

There’s not that many cosplayers today so I only manage to take a few pics..

there were a bunch of kids cosplaying compared to anime cons..
at the end of the day.. i bought a set of copic markers while it’s at a huge discount..
*i only used it for a day and i haven’t touched it again since then.. XD

day 2.. it was busier than yesterday but compared to other cons, this saturday is more like a friday to some… or maybe just to me coz im only selling anime stuff.. some kid even asked me what is that.. XD anime is not comics, unfortunately.. v_v”

my cousin came today so i was able to relax a bit.. i looked around and realized how big the area is.. there’s probably less than 5 artists selling anime stuff in the alley.. but i found some anime cosplayers.. and some familiar faces too..

awesome domo cosplay with my cousin..~

she also took pics so enjoy some more cosplay photos..~

^ domo stayed there for almost the whole day.. he must be feeling heavy/hot.. XD

day 3 started really slow… more than an hour passed before i got my first sale..
my stuff is pretty much organized so there was really nothing to do but draw…..

it got busier near the end and there are still some people asking for prints of my black and whites even though they’re old from 2004.. eeh… maybe i’ll print a few copies for the next con.. ^^;

some more cosplay photos..

some more photos in my facebook c4 album

the loots…

lol.. only 2 anime art trades.. >v<! i was hesitant to ask for trades with comic artists but i really should’ve since it’s a comic con.. XD i wont fail next time.. =P a few people came to me with those ai-kon winterfest fliers.. i thought i threw them all but i found some inserted in my binder.. @x@

*extra extra*
i was really clueless and nervous.. i dont remember what nonsense i spoke but i remember feeling awkward yet i was smiling like a chipmunk.. lol… >v<!!

*original post*

I received an invitation from some previous artbook I joined. I was extremely busy with my night shift work and commissions but it was another great opportunity to have my work published and get paid at the same time so I just had to enter.

The theme is obviously anime character with wings. The cute image doesn’t really fit my style so I tried a serious approach. This image was not supposed to have wings but I thought I could use an old sketch and make it to something.. I was drawing this during a convention..

i was also working on it at work during break.. =P

I managed to finish the pencil art before December (view full image) and started doing the colored version right away because I had personal circumstances ahead but this colored wip doesn’t impress me much so I was really thankful that they extended the deadline to January 8.

There was still some time to work on this one so I was able to revise the colors and came up with a not-so-colorful version but it fits the concept I was going for. Here’s just a little preview

pre-order a copy via kickstarter :>

Actually, I had a second entry but it didn’t get in.. =/ since i took the effort to capture the progress, might as well share it.. (click image for full view)

Here’s the link to the super full view.. =P

the background I created took me about 4hrs but later on I realized that  I had a similar piece in my gallery so I flipped and rotated the image but the background didnt fit quite well.. there wasn’t much time to think of a new bg because all this time I had this idea in mind..

the 2nd pic on the right is the one I submitted but didnt get accepted.. >v<.. oh well… =/

i posted a larger version in DA (link to full view) but the details on the background was completely invisible.. v_v” i really worked hard on it but i guess 1pt brush size becomes nothing in low quality version.. i thought it was pretty much a high quality going over 1mb in file size.. >v< but anyways, here’s a somewhat hq view of a corner.. click the image for a full view..

anyways.. pre-order a copy of the Anime Angels artbook via kickstarter :>
